Rebecca Parson

Bio :

Rebecca has more than 30 years' application development experience in industries ranging from telecommunications to emergent internet services. She has extensive experience leading in the creation of large-scale distributed object applications, services based applications and the integration of disparate systems. She spent time at Los Alamos National Laboratory researching programming languages for parallel and distributed systems as well as the application of evolutionary computation to problems in computational biology. She continues to have a strong interest in programming language design and implementation, particularly as it relates to scientific and distributed computation.

Milind Bhandarkar

Bio :

Milind Bhandarkar was the founding member of the team at Yahoo! that took Apache Hadoop from 20-node prototype to datacenter-scale production system, and has been contributing and working with Hadoop since version 0.1.0. He started the Yahoo! Grid solutions team focused on training, consulting, and supporting hundreds of new migrants to Hadoop. Parallel programming languages and paradigms has been his area of focus for over 20 years, and his area of specialization for PhD (Computer Science) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously, he has worked at the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets, Siebel Systems, Pathscale Inc. (acquired by QLogic), Yahoo! and Linkedin. Currently, he is the Chief Scientist at Pivotal (formerly Greenplum, A Division of EMC).

Joydeep Sen Sharma

Bio :

Joydeep is a co-founder at Qubole and heads their India development team. Prior to starting Qubole – Joydeep worked at Facebook where he boot-strapped the data processing ecosystem based on Hadoop, started the Apache Hive project and led the Data Infrastructure team. He has been a key participant in other important sub-projects in the Hadoop ecosystem – like HBase, FairScheduler and RCFile and helped design the Facebook Messages backend.
Joydeep studied Computer Science at IIT-Delhi and University of Pittsburgh and started his career working on Oracle’s database kernel and building highly available and scalable file systems at Netapp. In between – he has played founding roles in storage and advertising startups. He cut his teeth building data driven applications as the lead engineer on Yahoo’s in-house Recommendation Platform. Joydeep holds numerous patents, has many published papers and has been both speaker and panelist at Hadoop summits and at other Silicon Valley conferences.
